10 Years of the Mikkel Museum
This year the Mikkel Museum will celebrate it’s 10th birthday. The origins of the Museum are noteworthy. In 1997, the Mikkel Museum was the first museum in Estonia established from the art collection of a private collector, as well as the first building in the Kadriorg Palace complex to be restored and specifically adapted to the needs of a museum. In 1997, Johannes Mikkel’s collection of West European, Chinese and Russian painting, as well as his porcelain collection and graphics, found a home here, although his interests also included historical furniture and Estonian artistic works. Now Johannes Mikkel’s collection of Estonian art has been added to the museum’s permanent exposition. This comprehensive exhibition provides an in-depth introduction of the newer works in Mikkel’s graphics collection and the sculptures added to the permanent exposition of West European art.
